Description
This is a newspaper clipping from 5 August 1979 which describes the anticipation building to Clemson's first ever Flower Day, held on Thursday, 9 August 1979. The article identifies drawbacks, such as heavy July rains and copious amounts of mud and soil piled in areas of the gardens, that pushed the date back. There are 2.5 acres of annuals and perennials for the event, and approximately 30,000 flowers designed into irregular-shaped islands. The gardens even offer guided tours for Flower Day.
